What is a portable Air Conditioner
A portable air conditioner is just like any other AC that uses the refrigeration mechanism to cool the room inside and throws the hot air outside.
It is small in size and portable when compared to a window or split AC.
Normal ACs need to be fixed either on the window or on the wall. While a portable AC can be placed anywhere be it your kitchen or bedroom or study room.
Many have wheels attached to them for making the shifting easier.
A portable AC can also be seen as an upgrade of coolers or a hybrid of a cooler and an air conditioner.
It looks like a cooler but blows cool air without increasing humidity.
Best Portable AC
It is an Indian multinational company that specializes in making cooling and air conditioning products.
Blue Star was the first company to introduce portable air conditioners in the Indian market.
This is a 1 ton AC fit for cooling a very small room of 50-70 square feet.
Do note that portable ACs take a longer time to cool a room.
It is not very energy efficient like any other portable AC. This unit has a rating of 2 stars.
The company has used R410A refrigerant which is a greenhouse gas harmless to the ozone layer
You get a warranty on the entire product for a full 1 year and a 5-year warranty on the compressor.
Just like a regular AC, it has dust filters, a remote control, self-diagnosis mode, dry mode, etc
In the rainy season turn ON the ‘Dry Mode’ which sucks out the humidity of the room.
The water gets collected inside the unit which can be drained out using the pipe.

Croma is a retail chain company spread across the nation. It is a subsidiary of TATA.
Not only it sells different vendors product but it also has started making its own products like this Croma 1.5 ton AC
This AC being a 1.5 ton AC can cool 80-100 square feet room but still, it is slow in terms of cooling when compared to its counterparts – window or split AC
3-in-1 device – It can function as an air conditioner, air cooler, and a fan.
Like every portable AC, this is easy to install and easy to use.
No drip technology – The moisture collected from the inside of the room is transferred out into the environment from the exhaust pipe.

Should You Buy a Portable AC
A Portable AC is not an alternative to a regular window or split AC.
Many may think that it will work and cool the room the same as a normal AC.
It will not because it is not a normal type of AC
In terms of cooling, efficiency, and power consumption it is poorer than a normal AC.
Consider this as an upgraded version of cooler only, this is not very efficient for cooling the entire room.
You may buy it only if
- You frequently shift home
- You are a bachelor living alone
- Your room does not have windows or space for placing the Split AC pipes.
- You Landlord is denying fixing an AC
Buy Portable AC only as a last resort!!
Cons of Portable AC
Small space for throwing air – Portable AC is small in size and so the area from where the cool air comes out.
Inefficient and slow cooling – Due to this small space the cooling is inefficient and slow. It takes a longer time to cool the same room when compared to a normal AC.
Consumes more power – As it takes a longer time to cool a room. So it being inefficient, it will consume higher electricity.
High Noise Level – Most portable AC has noise levels above 50dB which is more than the average window AC noise level. Some have near to 60dB noise. This is high and so this AC will be very noisy and pose some difficulty when you go to sleep.
Pros of Portable AC
Small in Size – Unlike a normal AC, these are small in size making them easier for transportation and shifting.
Highly Portable – Take it anywhere be it in the study room or kitchen or bedroom. Many have caster wheels attached to them to make their moving easy.
Easy to Install and Use – These do not need to be fixed on the wall or window. Place the device anywhere and its exhaust pipe in an exhaust hole or window.
Do I need a Voltage Stabilizer for my Portable AC?
Yes, if you live in a country like India where it is common to see voltage fluctuations, power surges, and outages. Like any other normal AC, you will need a voltage stabilizer.
Do portable air conditioners work without a window?
Every portable air conditioner will have an exhaust pipe. This exhaust pipe throws hot air which needs to be expelled outside.
This pipe needs to be fixed either in some kind of hole that goes outside or in a window.
Manufactures also sends panels for fixing this exhaust pipe in the window
